A GLOUCESTERSHIRE based civil liberties supporter claims the

Americans have built a secret listening post deep in the heart

of the Forest of Dean.

Roger Horsfield, 74, who previously served with the Royal

Signals, says he knows there is an underground bunker "within a

10 mile radius" of Speech House near Coleford.

Mr Horsfield, a former Forest of Dean District councillor,

claims the Pentagon - headquarters of the US Department of

Defence - has built a number of the secret listening posts in

countries across Europe to gather intelligence including

listening out for potential terror threats.

One, he says, is in the Forest of Dean.

"One theory is that it has been built to spy on GCHQ (the

Cheltenham based Government listening post), because they don't

trust the allies, but I think that is unlikely," said Mr

Horsfield.

He claims the listening posts were installed after the poor

quality of intelligence in the run up to the Iraq invasion.

"I know it is there because several people have spoken to me

about it and I have also been within 50 yards of it myself.

"There are quite a few people in the Forest who were

involved in the construction of it."

Mr Horsfield said he was concerned over the alleged secret

listening post.

"I feel it is important that people feel free to speak out

without being harassed or persecuted."

A spokesman for the Forest of Dean District Council said:

"The council has no knowledge of a facility of this sort in the

Forest of Dean."

Thisisgloucestershire has contacted the Pentagon for comment

and is awaiting a response.

“* The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) ¿ EDS has been providing IT services and delivering modernisation programmes for the various agencies and departments now encompassed within the DWP, since 1989. EDS supports most of DWP's business systems including pension credit, child support, income support and incapacity benefit, as well as supporting Jobcentre Plus and the Job Banks.
    * Ministry of Defence (MOD) ¿ EDS has served military and secure government clients for more than 30 years. EDS is prime contractor on many of the MOD's major IT programmes. Also, as prime contractor in the ATLAS consortium, EDS is central to the successful delivery of the Defence Information Infrastructure (Future) (DII(f)). DII(f) is a major contract running over ten years and will replace numerous individual information systems throughout the MoD with a single more efficient information infrastructure.
    * Ministry of Justice ¿ EDS' work with the UK's Ministry of Justice includes the successful delivery of the Computerised-National Offender Management Information System (C-NOMIS), which will help join-up information across departments, tracking the progress of offenders during their time in prison and on probation.”

“Re Chris comment about EDS. A quick Google will tell you why security is so tight at EDS, nothing sinister at all just a company involved in military contracts.

The 'Mole' mentioned by Rob Barnes knows a fair bit about mines in the FOD but doubt he'll know about secret bunkers. Keep an eye out for a sidecar outfit!!!

The other 'Mole' did indeed pass away in 2005. He wasn't a FOD miner though”

“Re Vantage Point (Ranks Xerox site). I know there is a company at the rear of the site called EDS security which is a strict "no-go" area for the public. Nothing can be seen from the rest of the site. Not even the groundsmen are allowed in there grounds to maintain it. Maybe the Citizen should contact Brian Bennet (Vantage Point owner) and quiz him about proceedings @ EDS. Look forward to hearing an explanation!”

“There is but one person in The
Forest, who will know what is going on, deep underground,
    and that´s "Mole", but finding
    him, well, that´s another story!”

“Not at all, we play tubas in these parts and bury people under patios. I wonder if they're after me, someone has already called from Mclean, Virginia where The Firm hangs out. Tell em they're way off base, I'm in Parkend.”
