Stuck for something to do this Mothers Day weekend? Here are TiG's top 10 things to keep you and your family amused and entertained.

  1. This is the first weekend of the new exhibition by landscape artist Beth Fletcher at the Martin's Gallery in Cheltenham. It's free to get in.
  2. Also for free, on Saturday at lunch time, is a gig by singer and cellist Laura Collins, who plays at The Daffodil in Cheltenham in her string trio.
  3. There are five Oscar-winning films on show at the Gloucester Guildhall this weekend, for just £5.50 a ticket. They are Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook and Les Miserables.
  4. Saturday is the first day of a new harlequinade art exhibition, of works made from recycled and upcycled materials, in the Community Gallery of Gloucester City Museum.
  5. The Holst Singers choir will recite several choral works in a concert at the Subscription Rooms in Stroud on Saturday evening.
  6. In Dursley, there's a Samba Reggae Dance Workshop taking place on Saturday afternoon from 3pm at the Lister Hall. The event is run by the African Sambistas and tickets cost £5.
  7. Back in Gloucester, there's a concert by the St Cecilia Singers at St Andrew's Church in Churchdown on Saturday evening. Tickets cost £17 and it's followed by puddings and punch.
  8. Mothers Day dominates Sunday and there are special lunches and dinners on at restaurants around the county. These included the Wharf House, Cafe Rene and the Bowden Hall hotel in Gloucester, as well as The Daffodil and the Montpellier Chapter in Cheltenham.
  9. Pub Landlord comedian Al Murray brings his show to the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on Sunday evening.
  10. Alternatively there's a free Comedy Lounge night at the Ebrington Arms in Chipping Camden, also on Sunday night, with MC Eleanor Conway introducing the acts.
