Owner of Cafe El Bahdja, Lizzie Abderrahim, said: "We loved the first one.

"It was great fun and a great success for the city.

"It was definitely a boost for our business as we were able to reach out to people and it brought people in to us no doubt."

Her business is in Westgate Street which, she said, does not get as much passing trade as the other gate streets.

The first night market was held in July in King's Square and attracted hundreds of people.

Dudley Taylor opened Fab and Faded in Longsmith Street a week before the summer event and said it was a great place to launch a new business.

"It definitely gave us a boost and was great advertising for us.

"We had a lot of people come in afterwards that said they had seen us there. We would certainly be interested in being at the second one."

Craft and gift shop Treasure Seekers opened in College Street yesterday.

Craig Tucker said it had already asked to have a stall at the December market.

He added: "It will be a great way to promote the new shop."

The £10,000 Town Team funding came from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

The scheme was set up following a report by retail guru Mary Portas on how to improve our High Streets.

The cash will also be used to develop the three other city markets as start-up opportunities for new businesses.

Council leader Paul James said: "Our first night market was a huge success and we made sure new businesses and people thinking of starting up businesses were there.

"It's an approach we will continue to develop with the aid of this funding."
