More than 15,500 potholes fixed
They are the cause of much misery for drivers but it seems there have been thousands fixed in Gloucestershire in the last week alone.
Since Gloucestershire County Council launchyed its Operation Road Rescue it has repaired more than 15,500 potholes.
-

Last week, 3,006 potholes were filled by teams from Gloucestershire Highways.
Since January 25, the teams have been out around the county repairing potholes, patching and resurfacing roads that were badly damaged during the freezing weather.
They have diverted 30% extra highways staff into dealing with repairs so there are 70 gangs out on the streets repairing the damage as quickly as possible.
Last week the teams carried out 9,000m2 of patching work at the following locations:
East
B4077 Tewkesbury Road
A429 Sweetslade
A429 kemble
Tetbury Road, Leighterton
Central
Eastington
Down Hatherley
Station Road Gloucester
A46 Horsepool Hill, Edge
Clarence Road, Cheltenham
Wellington Road, Cheltenham
New Road Minchinhampton
The Butts, Minchinhampton
New Barn Lane, Cheltenham
West
A417 Staunton Court
Court Farm, Kempley
B4234 New Road, Whitecroft
In the last week teams have carried out the following surfacing schemes:
Belle Vue Road, Cinderford (complete)
Seymour Road, Gloucester (ongoing)
Cowcombe Hill, Chalford (ongoing)

“We don't need to bring on the clowns, we already have them managing our road surfaces.
Perhaps they are not repairing the A46 By Focus in Stroud because the potholes were there before this year's frost.
By the way, that's a nice surface you laid on that "busy" piece of road going in to Coates.”

“Ouch, if it a real one then there are going to be a fair few people getting a letter on the doormat in the next week or so. I guess that will be a £60 fine then. I was tempted to start using it again but don't think I will risk it now.”

“yes, the camera by Llanthony Bridge is a working one - Automatic Number Place Recognition job, so the registered owners of all those cars you saw crossing the bridge will be getting a fixed penalty notice in the post”

“this paper/website reported last week that potholes in Cheltenham Road East had been repaired - it certainly doesn't look like it, as there are still loads in the road, and they're getting bigger.
There is the odd bit of white paint though, marking where some of the worst ones are along the stretch approaching Churchdown from Cheltenham...”

“Good old Stan and the rest of the numpties at GCC. Let the roads get in such a state that they have 90,000 pot holes - then spin it that they filled in 15,000 of them and that they are doing a good job.
Just for the record - does anyone know if that new camera on the swingbridge by Glos College is a real un or whether it's just for show?? Was stood there today and lots of cars still crossing the bridge - none of them taxis either :)”

“What a bunch of whingers you lot are! "oh but they haven't done my street yet..." (moan)
Quite frankly, I'm amazed at how quickly these potholes have been filled in as I didn't expect the work to start until the weather had improved (May?).
From what I've seen round my area (in car or on bike) the work is of a good standard.
So, to the road crews carrying out this work I say "Job well done!"”

“Question is, I repeat question is.... why were there 15,500 potholes in the first place. Weak and poor quality repairs in the first place, Was it the Gas, Electricity or Waterboard who did'nt fix em properly in the begining. It seems that patchwork is a job not checked by The County Council once sub contractors have put in what they got permission to put in in the first place. End result potholes being repaired by the county council. Check em first then sign them off and if they fail call the subbies back in to fix em or fine em.....”
