MORE than 150 new homes look likely to be on their way to Coleford, despite concerns.

But officers at Forest of Dean District Council have recommended it be granted permission, subject to negotiations with the developer about cash they will provide for the community through section 106 agreements.

Coleford Town Council has objected to the plan, raising concerns about a higher-than-expected number of houses among other worries.
Clark Annie Lapington said: “The council objects to the quantity of properties being erected.
“The allocation for this site is about 140. 156 houses proposed is a 13 per cent increase. This is not ‘about 140’.”
Rambling groups also said there is a disused public right of way at the site and 13 letters from members of the public raised other concerns, although four of them are from the same person.
The development will be comprised of 14 one-bed homes, 30 two-bed, 30 three-bed, 78 four-bed and four five-bed, with 40 per cent of it affordable housing.
A £315,000 section 106 grant would also be required to extend and upgrade nearby St John’s Primary School for extra children to use.
A design statement from David Wilson Homes said it would be a “high quality development” which “will fit sympathetically and harmoniously into its surroundings”.

“Do they have to keep building on every available shard of greenery? The road infrastructure in the Forest cannot cope but we also don't want to see vast dual-carriageways blotting the landscape. With that, the Forest does not need any more housing.”
