At last – there is some good news for users of Cheltenham's pothole-ridden roads.

Gloucestershire County Council has announced it will send out extra teams over the next six months to repair a 15,000 potholes on top of its usual road repairs.

It comes after the authority announced it would pump an additional £3 million into tackling the problem, which has got worse and worse in recent months due to sub-zero weather conditions.

Councillor Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for communities, said: "The combination of wet and cold weather this winter has left some of the county's roads in a very poor state and as a county council we have looked to ensure that all these problem potholes are treated as quickly and effectively as possible.

"The extent of the issues has meant we've had to increase the number of gangs out on the road treating this damage.

"We are delighted to make this commitment to keep the county moving in the interest of residents and businesses."

“The condition of the roads is the reason that my children have BMX bikes rather that road bikes for cycling around cheltenham.
Small or thin or high pressure tyres are inappropriate for the state of many of our roads.

I really hope that this makes a significant contribution to the safety of cyclists in this area.”
