9,000 art butterflies die
CONTROVERSIAL artist Damien Hirst is in hot water with the RSPCA.
Hirst, whose workshop is at Chalford, put on a show at the Tate Modern in London which featured live butterflies.
But 9,000 died during the 23-week exhibition.
A spokesman for the animal charity said there would be "national outcry" if it had involved an animal such as a dog.

Yes in the literal definition insects are animals, the next thing YOU and the Badgerists will be protesting about will be cockroaches, ants, mice and rats being killed by exterminators!”

“Apparently the butterflies were of the Owl and Heliconius species, and can live up to 9 months in their native tropical environment.
400 new butterflies had to be brought in each week to replace those that were trodden on, or killed in other ways, by visitors”

“Hang on, don't butterflies only live for two weeks -so yes, the numbers would add up.
I blame the general public for encouraging him when he started putting dead animals in tanks.”
