Jermaine Easter, the Welsh international striker who is

believed to be high on Cheltenham Town manager Keith Downing's

wish list, has been transfer listed by Plymouth Argyle.

Downing admitted last night that he is 'in talks' with an

un-named club about the possibility of signing a player ahead

of Monday's transfer deadline.

The former Wycombe Wanderers striker is well known to

Downing, who coached him as a youth player at Wolves and would

be seen as a perfect addition to the Robins' front line.

He is enduring domestic problems and feels a move away from

Plymouth will help get him back on track.

"He has got some domestic problems, which he feels he can't

clear up, playing in Plymouth." said Argyle manager Paul

Sturrock.

"We are circulating to clubs to see if we have any

takers."

The 26-year-old was a target for the Robins manager before

he secured a move to Argyle, initially on loan, in October of

last year.

He has scored six times in 34 Championship appearances and

had been involved in Argyle's first three games of the

season.

Argyle are unlikely to let the Cardiff-born striker leave

for free having paid Wycombe a significant six figure fee to

secure his services less than a year ago.

"It is time-sensitive but Jermaine has to understand that he

has a value, and, like anybody else, that value has to be met."

added Sturrock.

"It has been bubbling for quite a long time but I have come

to understand it over the last ten days after Jermaine came to

see me.

"It had been happening since the end of last season and he

has decided a move from Plymouth would benefit his domestic

problems."

Easter started his career with Downing at Wolves before

having a nomadic early career.

He took in spells at Hartlepool United, Cambridge United and

Stockport County amongst others.

He rose to prominence after he joined Wycombe in January

2006, scoring 21 goals in a little over a season at Adams

Park.

He will be most remembered for helping to fire the Chairboys

into the semi-finals of the League Cup in 2007.

  • Easter was on target for the Plymouth reserve side when

they beat Exeter 3-0 at Home Park yesterday afternoon.

Easter started alongside former Cheltenham Town loanee

Denes Rosa and one-time triallist Nicky Law, who are

both on trial with Argyle.

Rosa, the Hungarian international midfielder who made a

handful of appearances during a loan spell in 2007, had a hand

in the first two Argyle goals.

Sheffield United midfielder Nicky Law, who trialled for

the Robins against Southampton last month. also

completed 90 minutes in the 3-0 win.

“Cheltenham will not sign Easter. Fact!! His wages will be too high and he wont fit in well with the squad (plays for himself, not for the team).”

“This Easter "story" is very tenious at best - another example of the Echo just listing random players that KD probably hasn't even spoken to + and anyway, with his likely wage demands coming from Plymouth, we have no chance of sigining him. Also these "personal issues" sound like a very unsettled player at the moment - wjy would we want to sign him anyway? Sounds like he could be turning into another Leon Knight!! One to avoid KD!”

“I have read most of the comments lunchtime and instead of replying myself ask another supporter of not many years what he thought of some of the posts. His reply was that there has to be a reality check due to the fact that managing Cheltenham Town at the highest standard ever achieved has to be one of the most difficult jobs in football. How we were ever able to contest a third year at this level was an unbelievable achievment considering average gates (home crowd) of less than 4000. Paul Baker had put a huge amount into the clubs finances in order to buy and bring in players so we could break into the league (someting I never thought possible ), financing ground improvements and getting new blood onto the board which has given the stability and not follow the example of Boston, Maidstone, Scarboro, Luton, Bournmouth and Rotherham. He was'nt preaching, just stating facts. I never want to see the future of the club I have followed for nearly 50 years compromised for a boom or bust policy followed by others.
Personal funnies and quips older than the hills do nothing in a debate. Do these "Father Christmas" jokers really think they are funny ?? I think sad is more appropriate.”

“thanks for the advice matt I have already taken that decision along with hundreds of others by the looks of things. Sadly thanks to me and other this topic has gone off thread but the crass nature of our position and lack of activity in the transfer market couldn't be better illustrated than in the fact that Downing had Nicholas (or Nicholls) on trial from Swindon for three weeks (in which time he neatly helped fill out a reserve team. Downing wasn't allowed to sign him apparently due to financial constraints placed on him by the board. We also don't need a defender because we have only shipped eight goals in two away league fixtures. We are linked with more invisible front men and yet Rotherham recently out of administration offer the player a three year deal as quck as a flash. All I am saying is something is very wrong at the heart of the club and anyone who is expecting our saviour to be signed this week and for our chairman to keep "HIS" promise may be sadly disappointed.”

“Northern robin, you mention the club hasnt bought in a replacement for Gillespie, Do you not think the managment, board and chairman havnt tried, Hooper, Boulding brothers, Horesfield, that just a few who have benn offered deals but rejected. Its not through lack of trying, so if all you can do it critise the board i suggest you save a few quid in petrol money and start supporting a team from up north! If youve got nothing decent to say, dont say it, because it doent help!”
