Cheltenham and Cotswolds Advanced Motorcyclists (CCAM) has been named runner up in the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) Motorcycle Group of the Year award.

The group, which only formed two-and-a-half years ago and covers the whole of Gloucestershire and its surrounding areas, took second place in the prestigious award - ahead of around 70 motorcycle groups across the UK.

Chairman Ian Stavert said: "This is, quite frankly, a remarkable achievement given that the group was only founded two-and-a-half years ago. I want to express my sincere thanks to all the committee, observers, members and our partners who have supported us along the way and without who's tremendous efforts and support this would not have been possible.

"I hope we can build upon this success and continue in our quest to make bikers in the CCAM area safer on our roads." The judging criteria is based upon membership growth, number of test passes, observers trained and communications.

Dave Hornibrook, Head of Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership, said: "It's obvious to us all here at the RSP that a huge amount of volunteer effort has been put into making CCAM one of the most successful motorcycle groups in the country.

"This is a well-deserved recognition and testament to the dedication of all the group's members toward motorcycle safety in the county."

CCAM's aim is to improve riding skills, develop social activities and support bike safety initiatives in Gloucestershire.
