Accommodation for elderly 'isn't needed' says councillor
ACCOMMODATION for the elderly is not needed in Quedgeley, one parish councillor has said.
Plans for a development of up to nine houses for pensioners at the rear of Tesco and next to the medical centre have been on the cards for some time.
But Quedgeley parish councillor Julian Powell said: "It is a very short sighted use of the land.
"We've got more than enough of this sort of housing in the parish.

"The city council has become fixated on providing just a few houses when we've already got these sorts of properties."
County councillor Jackie Hall (C, Quedgeley) rejected the claim.
She said: "I don't know where Councillor Powell's evidence to his claims are coming from. The information I have received paints a different story."
She points to statistics which show 123 households are on Gloucestershire Homeseeker seeking a wheelchair adapted home.
Some 101 of these want one and two bedroom sized properties.
There are 251 applicants older than 65.
A planning application is likely to be submitted by mid next year.
