MORE than 50 people crammed into All Saints' Church Hall for the first meeting of the resurrected Slad Valley Action Group.

The group, which now has around 300 members, has been set up to defend land next to Summer Street in Stroud from housing after developer Gladman proposed building around 150 homes on three fields, known as Baxter's Field.

SVAG was delighted at the turnout and thanked speaker Geoff Murray of the Campaign to Protect Rural England for his input and advice.

"SVAG continues to grow in numbers and we are encouraged by the level of support," said Mary Jarrett from the group after Monday's meeting at the church hall in Uplands.
