Affordable choice, pretty setting for a family meal
FOR families like ours, timing is everything. Far too often restaurants and pubs start serving food when our little one is ready for bed.
But Egypt Mill has a daytime menu and has even extended the concept of lunch until 6.30pm.
If you order from the daytime menu before 6.30pm you can have a main course and dessert for £10.
It seemed perfect for a Friday family teatime treat.

It was a while since I had visited Egypt Mill and I'd forgotten just how lovely its setting is. It was so pretty to cross the twinkling bridge in the twilight and our children were enchanted by the working waterwheel.
It's a shame we weren't also greeted with a warm smile. The restaurant was quiet but staff barely spoke to us when we arrived.
However, things picked up. The daytime menu features simple, affordable dishes. My gourmet burger with caramelised onion, bacon and melted cheese with fries and salad (£9.50) was good with a generous tasty salad.
My partner's fillet of smoked haddock with poached egg, parsley sauce, vegetables and baby potatoes (£8.50) was also good.
The children were all well-catered for with fish fingers and fries for £3, sausage and mash (£5) and my little daughter's ham, egg and chips (£5) was a very generous portion.
Thoughtfully, vegetables, for the children are ordered separately – our kids eat their greens but I guess many do not – and the 50p servings were a bargain.
Service, although not polished, had also warmed up and become more friendly. The children were delighted with their Winstones icecream and my chocolate and hazelnut torte with Bailey's cream was a rich treat and a challenge to finish, although the eager-eyed children were happy to help.
We had an enjoyable evening and it was a good, affordable choice for a family meal, particularly with its daytime deal.
Egypt Mill is certainly somewhere we'd like to go back to in the coming months and enjoy the setting on a summer's evening.
