ENTERPRISING sisters Kris Bhatt and Nita Zanders are giving entrepreneurs a chance to gain a foothold in the high street by opening new shared business space in Gloucester.

The businesswomen, whose family have been in business in the city for two generations, have taken over 48 Westgate Street and footed the costs to convert it into space for an estimated 12 small businesses.

The pair believe there is a wealth of wannabe business talent in the city of all ages being held back by the high start-up costs of acquiring property and paying business rates.

"It has cost a lot of money, but we hope a lot of people see it as an opportunity and come along and set up their business there," said Mrs Bhatt, who runs women's clothes and accessory shop Inti, in Bull Lane, off Westgate Street. "We wanted to do something for all trades. It will hopefully provide people with something to try out and launch their business and create jobs.

"We have got space for about 12 businesses to go in there. Hopefully, it will give people a chance, from girls who have just come out of college and have learned beauty treatments to anyone of any age who has a business idea or a business but can't commit to their own city centre retail unit."

Mrs Zanders said: "The premises is in a good position. It would be great to have people come in, then leave when they are ready and open their own shop .That would be fantastically satisfying. "
