American tour companies could set up bases in Cheltenham
TOUR companies from America could soon set up bases in Cheltenham.
A group of 35 tour operators visited the town on Monday to decide if Cheltenham and the Cotswolds were viable tourist attractions, and they were left impressed.
After spending about two hours in The Wilson, Cheltenham’s new art gallery and museum, the group headed out on a walking tour, taking in the Town Hall, the gardens and the Promenade.
The group consisted of American travel agents from across the States on a six-day educational tour around England.

They visited London and Birmingham, and arrive in Cheltenham from Chipping Campden.
Paull Tickner, group leader from Greatdays Tour Operators, said: “We came to Cheltenham as it really is the cultural centre for the Cotswolds.
“I came to see the arts and crafts collection a few years ago in its original layout and am hugely impressed by the imaginative interpretation of the new displays.
“The Wilson seems to be an invaluable starting point for an exploration of the arts and crafts movement elsewhere in Gloucestershire.”
Organised by the Outside Sales Support Network (OSSN), the groups will bring their impressions of the regency town back to America.
“The team was very passionate about what they saw. Cheltenham offers a very unique shopping experience as well, and is a great place to set up base for visits to the Cotswolds,” Mr Tickner added.
“Cheltenham is a beautiful, elegant regency town. We will definitely come back here.”
Sue Adie, press and marketing officer for Cheltenham Tourism, said: “It is fantastic to welcome this OSSN group of American travel agents to the town.
“They have chosen to visit Cheltenham because of our internationally acclaimed arts and crafts collection at The Wilson.
“We are very keen to welcome groups of travel agents and tour operators to Cheltenham to help spread the word on what a fantastic town we have. In order to bring economic benefit to Cheltenham, we are always keen to help increase visitors from overseas and the rest of the UK.”
