​Drivers who mount a grass bank in a narrow road are making residents’ lives a misery in Brockworth.

People living in Green Street said heavy vehicles using the road to access developments in the area are churning up a verge on one side of the road and making it an “eyesore”.

Resident Joan Rich said: “It’s an absolute disgrace.

“They (drivers) have had no respect for people’s property. We have tyre marks all over the verges.

“What worries me is, if this development goes ahead in Kennel Lane, I don’t know what will happen.”

Winnifred Jones, a 73-year-old grandmother and former home care organiser, said the situation had started after three homes were developed in the area.

And with more on their way, she has called for action from Gloucestershire Highways.

She said: “Green Street is a narrow country lane only three metres wide in some places with blind bends ending in a steep hill up to Cooper’s Hill.

“Inevitably the embankments have been over-run and mud lies constantly in the road and gullies are now blocked.

“Last time we had wet weather there was mud pouring down the road and into the gullies.

“Highways did come out to inspect it, but of course it had all dried up by then.”

Another resident, 59-year-old Clive Trott, said the bank had become “an eyesore”.

He said: “I just can’t believe no one’s ever been out to clear it up.

“It looks horrible. You would think, with the amount of traffic using the road, they would do something about it, but I’ve been on the phone to the Highways and they think it isn’t a problem.

“The road is just so narrow. I’ve been knocked over twice since I lived here.”

Beryl Deas, a 67-year-old grandmother, added: “We’re having a hell of a time down here at the moment. It all started when these three homes were built, we had all the big wagons and trucks coming down here, and the road outside my house is exactly three metres wide.

“The trouble is, they come up here and block up the road at the other end, so people come back down and turn around in my drive, which is all turned to potholes.

“I don’t see why I should have to pay for the world and his wife to turn around in my drive.”

She added: “There is also planning permission to build 82 homes in Kennel Lane, and there will be even more vehicles coming down  then.”

Highways bosses said they would look at the road again.

John Kay, stakeholder manager for Gloucestershire Highways, said: “We will go out and check on the situation at Green Street.

“If there are any hazardous defects we will clear them, but there is nothing we can do to prevent vehicles from using the verge.”
