Weekend

The A-listers were out in force at the 85th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. WEEKEND stylist Kate Parker gives her verdict on some of the showstopping dresses on the Oscars' red carpet.  Her are her favourites:

Best supporting actress Anne Hathaway is really owning her look since she chopped her hair short.  The oyster pink gown from Prada was a last-minute decision and unfortunately her stylist forgot to protect her modesty with some 'nipple daisies'.  This is probably what will be remembered about this fantastic frock.  Later, she slipped into a sophisticated ice blue gown for the Vanity Fair party.

Star of Zero Dark Thirty Jessica Chastain looks absolutely stunning in this strapless blush gown.  Customised for her by Giorgio Armani the gown's gentle colour works perfectly with her flame red hair.  Perfection . . .

Salma Hayek looked picture-perfect in this midnight blue velvet gown by McQueen.  She probably has access to the best wardrobe in the world, as her husband owns Gucci, McQueen and Saint Laurent.  That aside, this dress really works for her petite busty figure.

Design house Marchesa dressed petite Chinese actress, Fan Bingbing, in this fabulous cerise pink gown straight from the runway of New York Fashion Week. It's bright, it's bold. We love it.

And her least favourites:

Hilary Swank stepped out to the Vanity Fair Party in a totally inappropriate crimson gown from the Valentino spring 2013 runway. The dress, which was nearly identical to one worn by Sally Field, does little for her impressive physique or her colouring.  What was she thinking?

Also swathed in Valentino red was Jennifer Anniston.  Like Hilary, Jennifer has an amazing body and this dress just overwhelms her frame and does nothing to highlight any of her fabulous attributes.  What a shame.
