Anniversary proves welcome distraction for United
HEREFORD United have been celebrating one of English football's greatest giant-killing acts over the past week.
The 40th anniversary of the Bulls' legendary 2-1 FA Cup win over Newcastle United was on Monday and the club held a special cinema screening of the tie to celebrate.
The trip down Memory Lane will have served as a pleasant distraction for Bulls fans who have endured a miserable season so far.
Jamie Pitman's side are currently 21st in the table having won just six of their 28 games so far this term.
In need of inspiration, former Forest Green Rovers man Pitman yesterday turned to the loan market to secure a temporary deal for AFC Bournemouth striker Lyle Taylor.
Taylor is in line to start in place of either French striker Yoann Arquin or journeyman striker Delroy Facey in the Bulls front line.
In goal, Adam Bartlett will be no stranger to the Robins management duo of Mark Yates and Neil Howarth having spent a season under the pair at Kidderminster Harriers.
He will line up behind a back four of Ben Purkiss, recently recruited from Oxford United, former Cheltenham man Michael Townsend and experienced pair Mike Green and Rob Purdie.
In midfield, Pitman's former Forest Green team-mate Simon Clist is battling to overcome a groin injury to play, while Harry Pell is also struggling with a knee injury.
If either makes it through they are likely to partner Joe Colbeck and former Hull City man Nicky Featherstone in a three-man midfield.
Up front, on-loan Blackpool man Tom Barkhuizen is set for a recall after being introduced from the bench in United's most recent game, a 3-2 defeat to Shrewsbury Town.
He and new recruit Taylor are likely to flank former Paris Saint Germain forward Yoann Arquin in a three-pronged attack.
On the bench, one-time Cheltenham Town trialist Nathan Elder has been used as an impact sub after completing a permanent move from Blue Square Bet Premier club Hayes and Yeading.
