Extra police patrols have been launched in Longlevens to tackle anti-social behaviour around Tesco Express.

It comes after reports of gangs of youths hanging around the store in Old Cheltenham Road causing trouble.

City councillor Jim Porter (Con, Longlevens) said: “There are a group of youngsters who have been congregating around the store during winter months, rather than head out to the rural areas like the playing fields in the summer.

“They are just making a nuisance of themselves and elderly people can feel intimidated when there is a group of them.

“It is just thoughtless, as they block the door and don’t seem to think about the rest of the public and shop users that need to get passed.”

Hucclecote Safer Community Team, which polices the area, has prioritised the problem and has decided to tackle the issue with increased high visibility patrols in and around the Tesco Express store, which has been welcomed by Mr Porter.

He said: “We had a discussion with the PCSO at our councillor surgery on January 2 and we talked about the problem. I am pleased these patrols have begun which will hopefully disperse the kids.

“A CCTV camera is also due to be installed outside the store too so these people can be identified if there are any problems and will hopefully deter the youths.”

A Gloucestershire police spokesman said that members of the public should report any problems they had experienced with anti-social behaviour.

He said: “A concern was raised regarding anti social behaviour in certain parts of Longlevens and as such additional high visibility patrols are being carried out in these areas to prevent such offences.

“We would like to encourage anyone who witnesses any anti social behaviour to report it to us on 0845 090 1234.”

“It is about time the police take action against teenagers causing trouble around the this area of Longlevens as i have experienced problems there myself before. However there is a lack of places for people of this age to meet up with friends locally on a friday/ saturday night so i cannot blame them for hanging around on street corners! Of course anti-social behaviour has to be dealt with, but not all the people who hang around are looking for trouble.”

“Your analogy fails Juliet Muchiri. Whether a man has long hair and an unkempt beard or not, I can walk into a barber shop on any given day and I will see a barber. If you go into a church, you have never, and will never, see your god.”

“Mohammed Alji Hedemmiqu, Gloucester; Fair Point Mohammed. It is a dreadful situation where many of these Mothers you speak of who do not know the Fathers of their own Children were also born to Mothers who did not know their Fathers either. Reading the latest statistics (Which are available on line for anyone to read) it is a shocking state of affairs which is attributed as direct cause for a lot of the trouble we are experiencing and could reduce the National Debt immediately. What are we to do about it Mohammed because whenever I mention in the most hallowed quarters I get told to shut up”

“Realist Firmly on the Ground ¿and- B. Real Longlevens. There was a man who went to a barber-shop and as the barber worked on him, the man started telling him (barber) about the love of Christ. The barber did not believe in God, neither did he believe that He existed. His reason; he had too many problems and if God was, they should have been less. So,they entered into this heated argument about whether God exists or not.The man did not manage to convince the barber. As he left,j just outside the barbershop, he saw this guy with long unkempt hair, a long beard and an overgrown moustache. He went back into the barbershop and told the barber,"I don't believe that barbers exist." The barber asked, "what do you mean they don't exist?" The man answered, "well,I've just seen a man with very unkempt hair." The barber said, "Thats because the guy has never gone to a barber." The man said, "well then,-case settled. There is God. You have so many problems because you have never taken them to Him." Be Sure your unbelief of the ¿Word¿ has been heard in Heaven and here in Nairobi from where I write to this newspaper in Gloucester”
