Retired couple Barbara and Dennis Balfour have bought a flat at a new dockside conversion.

The couple, who live in Greece, are moving into their new home at Lock Warehouse at Gloucester docks, which officially opened to the public last week.

Dennis said they were impressed with the docks and the work that was going on there.

He said: "We love the regenerating feel of the docks area and the waterside setting. Also the original features."

Dennis, a former engineer, and Barbara, who ran small village shop in their Sparta home in Greece, will now divide their time between the two countries.

The pair chose Gloucester, despite having no existing ties with the city, for its mix of country and urban and also because it is centrally located for their UK relatives and friends. They also like being close to the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds.

In Greece, Barbara and Dennis live in a tiny mountain village, 1,000 metres above sea level.

They recently began to dislike staying in hotels or with kind friends when they come back - usually for a few months at a time every winter.

And the couple have decided to buy rather than rent.

    “So what?

People move all the time. What is so special about these two?”

“Is this really newsworthy? Of course it isnt. It is just more pathetic & meaningless 'journalism' from TiG.

Wise up & get some useful items on here or dont bother.

I did however chuckle at the comment 'we love the regenerating feel of the docks'...... what a load of rubbish. The docks has now been turned into a poncy housing estate with no atmosphere or life at all. It is an utterly soulless place as the fools who have spent their money unwisely will soon discover.

I am surprised that we didnt get a cameo photo appearance by either the council leader or our MP!”
