Arle Court roundabout in Cheltenham will get new traffic lights tomorrow
NEW traffic lights will be installed at Arle Court roundabout tomorrow following month long roadworks on the A40.
Gloucestershire Highways said the traffic signals will help the roundabout operate more efficiently.
The installation will mean highways bosses turning off the lights tomorrow morning for around an hour after the rush hour traffic.
Chris Riley, local highways manager, said: "Signs will be erected to make drivers aware of this crucial work and every effort will be made to cause as little disruption as possible."

The works at the roundabout have led to traffic jams on the main route into the town in the past month.
However, the highways teams has avoided doing work during peak traffic times.

“"However, the highways teams has avoided doing work during peak traffic times."
But you still have the roadworks in place! If you worked during peak hours it would of been done a couple of days earlier, thus less inconvenience, the inconvenience isn't you working it's the road being restricted.
Plus people are happier with roadworks if they see people working at them, having them empty is just frustrating. Heck look at the ones near the station currently, if they had filled in the hole by now or pulled the 'gating' back closer to the hole there would be no need to add temporary traffic lights as you could get 2 lanes down.”

“OK, we'll see from tomorrow then whether these new "intelligent" lights (as they were called on TiG a few weeks ago) actually make a difference. I thought all major traffic lights were "intelligent", through the use of the traffic-sensing loops embedded into the road surface - so what is different about the new Arle Court lights?
And when they're green in one direction, they'll be red for another direction. Just like a "normal" set of lights.
We'll see from tomorrow, I guess...”
