Army pair face tough Remembrance run to raise money for charity
FORMER paratroopers James Spelman and Steve Peat are bracing themselves for a tough start to Remembrance Sunday.
The pair have taken on the challenge of running to the service at the war memorial in Cheltenham from RAF Brize Norton – 30 miles away.
And to make life even more difficult, they will be in their old army boots and trousers with 50lb kits on their backs.
The ex-army men are hoping to raise money for charity Help for Heroes with their endeavour. It is the third year that they have given themselves a challenge to collect cash on Remembrance Sunday.

They started with a 42-mile run from Hereford to Cheltenham two years ago, while last year saw them carry their kit from Gloucester to Cheltenham via Tewkesbury.
James, 25, of Arle Road, Cheltenham, admitted the task would be difficult. "We know this isn't going to be an easy event," he added.
"We set the plans very last minute by anyone's standards, and have a lot of people asking if we are going to be ready.
"We have set ourselves this challenge, and we will be giving it 100 per cent every mile to complete it in time and raise as much money as possible."
Steve, 36, from Churchdown, added that they would be relying on each other to make it through the challenge.
"James has had an unlucky year fighting a number of injuries," he added. "But when it comes down to it, we will both be supporting each other trying to raise as much as possible for the charity. Over the years, James and I have covered hundreds of miles together and work well as a team."
James is a dispatch operator at Weird Fish in Cheltenham and the firm is lending its support to the cause by publicising the run on its Facebook page and helping collect sponsorship.
He was discharged from the army in 2009 due to a foot injury, while Steve, who now works in the warehouse at Spirax Sarco, served for 13 years before being discharged due to hearing impairment caused by his service. To make a donation, visit www.justgiving.com/militaryfit
