Attempted armed robbery in Up Hatherley, Cheltenham

POLICE officers are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery in Cheltenham this morning.

The offender entered  a shop in Hatherley Road, Up Hatherley, around 11.20am today wielding a "metal implement", described by police officers as possibly a car wheel remover.

He demanded the cashier hand over money, then smashed the glass counter screen and left the shop empty-handed.

Once he left the shop, he turned right onto Hatherley Road and headed towards Windermere Road.

No one was injured in the incident.

The man is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a dark-coloured snood type scarf and a light grey hooded jacket and was carrying a dark plastic bag. Inside it was a heavy object covered in dark material.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call police on 101 quoting incident 169 of March 2.
