Manager John Evans was very sympathetic to his young keeper and said he was proud of the performance.
"We played some of our best football of the season and our passing today was excellent," Evans said.
"They were hanging on at the back and I was proud of our spirit and performance.
"Matt Bennett was outstanding today for man of the match."
In the second minute Culley burst through and shot past keeper Law but the well positioned Villis was able to knock the ball off the line.
Tiverton went up the other end and Malsam shot from a wide angle.
The ball appeared to be going wide and Herbert left it, but it flew just inside the post to the obvious horror of the goalkeeper.
Wood's response was immediate and Law tipped over an effort from Bennett and a cross from Cant eluded the sliding Parker and Mann at the back post hit the side netting.
Wood continued to attack and after 24 minutes deservedly drew level.
Mann showed great persistence to hold off a defender and get the ball wide to Cant.
His cross was met at the far post by a flying header from Parker back across the keeper and in just under the bar.
Three minutes later Malsam fired just wide of the post and from the goal kick Wood swept upfield and Parker forced a corner.
Mann swung the ball over and Culley headed home.
Law came out at Mann's feet and Culley had a shot deflected narrowly wide as Wood sought to press home their advantage before disaster struck again at the back.
A simple through ball should either have been gathered by Herbert or cleared by Pritchett but a horrible mix up gave Wright the simplest of tap-ins.
Wright then picked up a yellow card for a late and robust challenge on Herbert.
Twice in the opening minutes of the second half Wood could have taken the lead as Cant and Mann came close and then Parker was taken out as he raced into the area but the referee was unmoved.
Mann headed straight to Law before Tiverton forced a corner after 69 minutes.
Herbert's punch was weak and when the ball came back in Emati Emati forced the ball home.
Still Wood refused to give up and threw everything at Tiverton without any luck at all – until the 83rd minute. Mann sent over yet another corner; Law collected the high ball and inexplicably dropped it for Avery to head home.
Wood refused to settle for the point. Avery was pushed over as he went for a through ball and Culley blazed over from close range. Culley then clipped the bar with a tremendous effort, but Tiverton escaped with a point.
