Azam faces new RFU hearing
HOOKER Olivier Azam will be hauled back before an RFU Disciplinary Panel for his alleged eye-gouge on Cardiff Blues centre Jamie Roberts.
Just when he thought he was in the clear, the Frenchman has been called to appear in Coventry after the case was re-opened.
The case was dismissed at the original hearing, in Bristol on Monday night, after the panel decided the matter had been officially raised too late after the EDF Energy Cup final on April 18 at Twickenham.
But disciplinary officer, judge Jeff Blackett, has reviewed the matter and summoned Azam to a fresh hearing.
If found guilty, he could face a ban of up to six months for breaching rule 5.12, by allegedly making contact with the eyes or eye area of Roberts.
Azam said he has signed a new contract to keep him at Gloucester for another two years, which is still to be confirmed by the club.
Meanwhile, Fijian flanker Apo Satala is at Twickenham today playing for the Army in the annual fixture against the Navy.
