BREAKING: Bomb scare at Gloucester Docks
A bomb scare closed off part of Gloucester Docks this lunchtime.
A suspect black luggage bag, abandoned in the Victoria Basin, was checked out by police officers.
Security guards turned people away from the area while an investigation was carried out.
A boater from the basin phoned police after finding the suspect bag.

But by 12.30pm police had opened the bag and didn't find anything suspicious.
They are now tracing the owner.
One security officer said: "There was nothing there in the end. They are looking for the owner now."
Citizen reporter Mike Wilkinson, who lives in The Docks, said: "It caused quite a stir in the Victoria Basin for a while as there were a lot of shoppers and tourists about."

“I suppose "bomb threat" is a more exciting headline than "abandoned suitcase".
Perhaps on a Sunday morning the "BREAKING NEWS" part of the headline, referring to lunchtime on Saturday, has gone a little stale?”

“I witnessed the "security" (2 parking attendants and a guard) running to this. That is until they got a bit out of breath and walked instead.
Glad it wasn't anything serious, but it would have been nice to see them take it seriously.”

“I think the level of threat can be measured by the regular copper and parking attendant who rifled through the bag.
Use of the term "bomb threat" is both highly emotive and incredible innacurate TiG.”

“Surely, if anyone is going to plant a bomb they're not going to leave it in a highly conspicuous place where it's sure to be found. The people who do the bombing either leave it under or inside cars or have it strapped round their waists, still you can't be too careful these days I suppose.
Maybe someone wanted to blow up that ghastly rusty needle nearby, in which case, carry on!”
