Bad parking brings chaos to Cheltenham town centre
THE phrase ‘you could get a bus through there’ was tested today when an inconsiderate motorist parked his car outside Cheltenham library. Apparently you can’t. Well, not in this case.
The owner of the silver Volvo parked opposite hoardings currently covering the soon-to-be opened Wilson Museum, effectively blocking Clarence Street.
A Stagecoach bus on its way to Prestbury had to decant its passengers to a vehicle behind and cars were forced to find alternative ways of getting round the town centre.
It is understood the registered owner of the vehicle was not from the Gloucestershire area.
Whether the owner had popped into town for a bit of shopping or a bite to eat, he or she will discover that paying a maximum £6 to park legally would have been cheaper.
They now face a towing charge of £150, followed by a £30 fine for causing an unnecessary obstruction and a £20 a day charge to store it at local recovery firm.
Police were called to Clarence Street at around 12.15pm and closed the road off until a tow truck from Yeates on Prestbury Road arrived at around 1.30pm.
The vehicle was secured to the truck and towed, unblocking the road by 1.50pm.
