Badger cull to be discussed by county council on Monday
The badger cull will be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of Gloucestershire County council on Monday morning.
Chairman of the council Tony Hicks decided to call the meeting after receiving requests from five councillors including Liberal Democrat leader Councillor Jeremy Hilton.
Officers have been asked to provide information about the council's policy on rural practices and procedures.
Councillor Hilton said: "I am delighted that the chairperson has recognised the importance of calling for an extraordinary meeting.

"It was called for by myself and four other Liberal Democrat councillors and will be held on Monday, October 29 at 10am to determine the council's legal position in the cull being undertaken on land that is owned, controlled or managed by the council.
"There has been overwhelming public opposition against this cull, it is therefore important for councillors from all parties to be seen making every effort to attend."

“Clued-Up, the article was headed "Clarification" and said:
'Yesterday the Citizen said Gloucestershire County Council called a meeting following a review of its policy on the badger cull. The county council has asked us to point out that there is no review and it has no control over the decisions made by other land owners. Coun Ray Theodoulou, cabinet member for resources, said: "Clearly this is an issue with strong views on both sides. The council has no power to unilaterally change farm leases agreed in the past. The meeting cannot change what existing tenants do with their land now. It is misleading to pretend this debate could, in any way, change participation in the current badger cull."'
So, it's anyone's guess what the meeting was supposed to be for. The badger cull has now been delayed till next year, but they wouldn't have known that on Monday, so I'm wondering if the meeting went ahead, and what decisions, if any, were made.”

“Boycott all british farmers until this outrageous policy is stopped, we have little indigenous wildlife left, we are outraged with brazil destroying the rainforest yet we are happy to let our farmers destroy what little wild life is left.”

“Thanks for compliment dodge 102 but I'm struggling timewise already.
The cull is WRONG-HEADED and UNETHICAL at so many levels - I want to do what I can to stop it going ahead. I run a business, though, and my contribution as a concerned citizen is necessarily limited.”
