Badger cull is response to 'devastating' disease, minister says
CULLING badgers in a bid to halt the spread of TB in Gloucestershire will be a "contribution towards bearing down on the disease", according to minister David Heath.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Food told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "This is simply a response to a devastating disease, doing so in the most effective way in terms of the science and the evidence that we have."
The pilot culls could see 500 to 800 badgers killed each year in each of the selected areas.

“David Heath along with Owen Paterson have pulled out of broadcast interviews planned for today. DEFRA says a U turn on the badger cull isn't underway - but they're not explaining why the change in plan.”

“The government's own Chief Scientist refuses to express support for the cull, though under enormous pressure to do so ... how damning can you get?
Just out is an open letter signed by a long, long list of eminent scientists saying the badger cull won't work.
I bet Heath sees fairies at the bottom of his garden too!”

“Please can these politicians do some research before they spout this rubbish and say something meaningful with JUSTIFICATION to back it up in the form of facts figures and science rather than just making sweeping meaningless statements.”

“The badger cull is political, claiming it's the most effective way to deal with bTB is just a lie but it will get the Tories a few more desperately needed farmers votes.”
