More than 400 people paid £1 to enter the Great Balloon Race, with prizes for the person whose entry travels the furthest by the end of August.
Proceeds will go towards three charities sponsored by Mayor Anne Regan – Dowty House, the Brizen Centre and Sue Ryder Care. The race was just one of many activities at the festival, which featured a host of live bands at both the Exmouth Arms and the Norwood Arms.
Wendy Ellyat, of Cheltenham Connect, said: "It has been a fantastic success.
"Cheltenham Connect only started a year ago and now look how far it has come. It is amazing.
"It has helped to create a really good community atmosphere. We hope to make this an annual fixture in the calendar from now on."

“Well done to Carole Cook from Dowty House who put this event together in just 2 weeks on behalf of the Mayor's Charity Fund Committee.”
