Bargain hunters hit the sales in Gloucester
BARGAIN hunters hit the streets yesterday as the traditional Boxing Day sales began.
The rain kept many away but some keen customers were still up at dawn to secure a deal.
There was a long queue outside Next in Quedgeley, which opened at 6am.
It was offering discounts of 50 per cent or more and a spokeswoman said there had been a steady stream of people through the doors.

In the city centre, Clarks in Eastgate Street also had a queue when it opened at 10.30am.
Students Kyla Arnot and Tekalla Williams, both 17, had been in town since 7.30am.
Kyla said: "I've been buying everything. I always go sale shopping in Gloucester."
Gloucester resident Tekalla said: "I come every year and my best bargain was some heels from New Look for £10."
Shoppers also headed to The Officers Club in Westgate Street, which had up to 70 per cent off.
Manager Philip Mendez said a few people were waiting outside when they opened at 10am.
Marion Moir from Highnam said Boots was the busiest shop she had seen.
The 63-year-old account manager said: "It's really quiet. I have just come out to have a look and see what there is."
Diane Velika, 28, was out with the women from her family.
She said Boxing Day sale shopping was a tradition for them.
The full-time mum said: "I've been to New Look, Primark, Raw, BHS and Dorothy Perkins. My best purchase was some shoes from Raw for £5.
"There are some very good bargains this year."
Amy Beckett, 17, from Hucclecote was shopping with younger sister Lillie Cooper, 11.
She said: "I normally go shopping on Boxing Day. It's quieter than normal. I expected it to be really busy."
Hairdresser Teri Diurno from Abbeymead had bought birthday presents from Boots.
She said: "I only came out to get myself a mixing bowl and got distracted by Boots. There are some very good bargains around."
Paul Powell, 43, and son Tom, 21, had come from Hereford to check out Gloucester's sales.
Paul bought a shirt from Primark but said: "I'm not impressed with the bargains this year."
Meanwhile, the clearance sale kicked off at Gloucester Quays yesterday, with doors open to shoppers from 10am to 6pm. Two new shops opened at the centre last week – Asics and Onitsuka Tiger.

It's no surprise that buses don't run on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, but why isn't there a Saturday (or even Sunday) service on all routes on Boxing Day?
