A BARN conversion with sheep's wool insulation has bagged a top building design award.

Tom Smith transformed Westington Hill Farm, near Chipping Campden, with features including a wildflower and mixed grass roof and a ground floor heat pump. His imagination led to his triumph in the regional Local Authority Building Control Excellence Awards. The Campden House Estate house, nominated by Cotswold District Council planning officers, won Best Conversion to Create a Dwelling.

Mr Smith said: "I was particularly mindful of making a sensitive alteration of the building and to do it in a way that was relevant and contemporary."

The building goes forward to the LABC national awards on November 2.
