A heartfelt protest by children who oppose Gloucestershire's £500million incinerator plans has gone viral online.

The protest on November 3 saw dozens of Gloucestershire children climb the Haresfield Beacon, near to the proposed site, to say no to the incinerator which would be built by Urbaser Balfour Beatty.

Campaigners from protest group Glosvain say that children have been forgotten in the race to build the incinerator, with no consultation on their views.

They are now hoping the online video from the day will be shared by people to spread the campaign message.

Glosvain's Claire Card said: "Everyone knows that landfill isn't an option anymore but if there is any doubt about the safety of incineration why are councillors risking children's health?

"Previous research has linked incinerators to infant mortality and ill health, and this is currently being investigated by the Health Protection Agency.

"So what is the rationale for continuing with incineration when alternatives such as MBT do the same thing as incineration, in terms of dealing with waste, but are potentially safer, smaller in scale and much, much cheaper?"

“SELINA30 - given the spread, and that parents and councillors both can be thick and led by gut-feel, no one and parents brainwash their children in everything - religion, culture, language, prejudices, bad habits, all - in other words youngsters follow their role models - parents, teachers, etc, but councillors - poor role models or community educators..”

“IsitJimKerr - absolutely - that is called integrated waste management - collection, sorting, and treatment unified with each stage suited to its economics and environmental impact.

You will still need a waste to energy plant - and probably larger capacity as much of what is recycled kerbside returns low sale value compared with cost - but yes - collect the lot in a single bin - dump it on a conveyor at the recycling facility and after sort and reclaim where economic - send the rest to an MRF.”

“I have said for years, that the way we deal with waste is just that, a waste.
We have consigned ourselves to a contract gawd knows how long, for kerbsiders.
They belch out fumes, hold up traffic (I was held up for ten minutes just this morning), and have loads of men, ferrying around green and brown bins.
Then there's the black bin pick-ups, and of course our subscibed green bin (con)!
There is a company called Forge, in Kidderminster, that are aiming for 100% recycling, and that should be our aim.

Even if there is a slight shortfall, this can either go to landfill or a small incinerator.
It would also mean us putting EVERYTHING in one bin.
The only problem is a word used by the anti and PC brigade....'cross-contamination', but when you realise that everything is melted at a squillion degrees, a bit of poo is quickly zapped!”

“JASB999 - alternatives that are intermediate solutions - MBT requiring additional fossil fuels to be expended in the process and the resultant product sent to an incinerator or landfill. Only the Lib-Dems (Bristol) or Greens will think of conning the public with such misleading information.”

“Just checked, wow, gone MENTAL.......................with 27 views, LOL!
Sorry, but it's an awful video, overplayed with Manic's "If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next", so yes, expoitation of children.
'Glosvain's Claire Card said: "Everyone knows that landfill isn't an option anymore but if there is any doubt about the safety of incineration why are councillors risking children's health?'.....
I love thse idealogists, they agree that there's a problem, but don't like the solution and come out and complain, but don't offer an alternative.
Like 'ban the car', but ermmmmmmm....'walk everywhere'......brilliant.”
