Bean counters at Cheltenham borough celebrate savings
BEAN counters at Cheltenham Borough Council are celebrating after defying the economic dip to make a budget saving of £149,000.
The saving for the 2011/12 financial year is a marked improvement on the £476,000 overspend projected earlier in the year.
Bosses at the authority said the money would be spent on homelessness services, recycling and planning appeals.
Mark Sheldon, director of resources hailed the savings as a "major achievement".

John Rawson, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for finance, added: "This result demonstrates the robustness of the council's financial management.
"At a time of great financial pressure, we have delivered a modest saving equivalent to about a quarter of one percent of the council's gross budget."
