Becky could be a public sector hero
For a 22-year-old who only qualified as a physiotherapist six months ago, Rebecca Lovatt has already had a positive effect on her patients.
Rebecca’s work has earned her a nomination in the Pride of Gloucestershire Community Awards for her “commitment” and “understanding” towards others in the Public Sector Hero category.

The category is jointly sponsored by Gloucestershire County Council and NHS Gloucestershire.
Former patient Kevin Bourne nominated Rebecca as a thank you for the help she gave him during his time at Wotton Lawn Hospital and since his discharge.
He said: “After suffering a breakdown Becky cared for me. She takes me and others out into the community so that we can go swimming or play badminton, as well as lots of other activities.
“She goes above and beyond her duties and takes great care about them. She really cares about everyone and is so committed.
“I just can’t praise her enough for all her help. I didn’t hesitate in nominating her.”
Rebecca, who lives in Gloucester, works for the 2gether NHS Foundation Trust as an exercise and health practitioner.
She said: “It came as a total shock when I found out about the nomination.
“I feel a bit embarrassed because I only qualified a short while ago, but it’s amazing that already someone thinks I’m doing a good enough job.
“Kevin’s a really good case of how physical well-being can help with mental well-being.
“The benefits of exercise on the mind are fantastic because of the amount of endorphins released. I’m just glad to be able to help.”
The Gloucestershire Echo and its sister title, The Citizen, are responsible for the Pride of Gloucestershire awards – now in their fourth year.
There are seven categories to choose from – Local Hero, Brave Heart Hero, Community Project, Caring Hero, Environmental Hero, Public Sector Hero, and for the first time Volunteer Hero.
A glitzy award ceremony will take place at Gloucester Rugby, Kingsholm, on June 25 when 2010’s winners will be announced.
