Benedict Cumberbatch may be filming Sherlock in Cheltenham next week
HIT TV drama Sherlock is set to be filmed in Cheltenham early next week, the Echo understands.
Scenes from the BBC show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, will be filmed in Suffolk Parade after Highways chiefs gave it their seal of approval.
It raises the prospect of Cumberbatch haring through the town in his signature deer-stalker hat as he outwits criminal masterminds – aided by his trusty sidekick Watson, played by TheOffice star Martin Freeman.
A source close to the production company confirmed that filming would take place on Monday and Tuesday.

Residents and traders in the area said they were excited by the news.
Iain Groom, manager of the Retreat bar, in Suffolk Parade, said: "It's great. I am a fan of the show and it's quite exciting for the area that the production is going to be filmed here.
"Unfortunately, I'm not going to be here to see it but I'm sure it will create a lot of interest.
"The locations manager came in to chat to us about what it would involve. It's a major production though so it's quite a big deal.
"I'm sure people will be looking to get a glimpse of the chap who plays the main part."
Parking restrictions in the road have been lifted in Suffolk Parade to allow filming to go ahead.
Cumberbatch was spotted in Bristol earlier this week filming for the third series of Sherlock, which airs later this year.
