Best teachers are targeted by rival county
SCHOOL bosses in Kent are trying to lure our best teachers away from the Five Valleys and Severn Vale in a high energy recruitment campaign.
Experienced and skilled staff, including at Stroud High School and Marling in Stroud, were the calibre of people being sought by the county council in the Garden of England, its spokeswoman Jade Jackson-Newman said.
"The finest educators are being targeted by a campaign raising awareness of the many teaching opportunities, including headteacher and leader-ship roles, within Kent," she said.
Teachers are being encouraged to experience a different way of life in Kent, close to "the bright lights" of London yet still in the countryside, she said.

Social networking site Facebook is being used and included the lure of a prize trip to Kent.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire County Council said recruitment and staff turnover levels were a matter for individual schools.
A number of Gloucestershire schools had also recently opted for academy status, leaving them free to deal with their own employment issues, he said.
Kent has a growing shortage of teachers, particularly men and headteachers.
Its recruitment marking officer Samantha Vandersteen said: "Kent is tackling the shortfall in experienced teachers head-on with an innovative campaign designed to get teachers from across the UK to think again about Kent.
"We want teachers to imagine living and working in Kent and then turn the dream into a reality."
Stroud-born Rosemary Lusty taught in Folkestone in Kent at the start of her secondary school career.
She said she left what she found in those days to be a very transitory and migratory community for rural Gloucester-shire.
Miss Lusty now lives in Wiltshire, another broadly rural county.
