Better ways to spend my time
A FISHERMAN protested about being called a 'mindless moron'; why? Only someone with nothing in their head and time they are not using wisely would sit on the bank of a river and instead of enjoying the view, concentrate on outwitting a creature less than the size of his foot.
Really it's all about power. “I can outwit a fish”. Big deal! “I can dupe it into believing this piece of food is floating free for it to take in its mouth.” How cruel.
And that is what this is – cruel.
You wouldn't call sitting on a mud-bank trying to outwit a tiny fish living, would you? I wouldn't at any rate.
I've had plenty of ups and downs in my life, especially now I am older but I always seemed to have something a little more exciting to do than fish.
And then, of course, I have never wanted to hurt any creature. If I accidently step on a snail, I cannot sleep properly at night, and so on and so forth.

“To the person referring to having better things to do than go fishing! We have a 14 yr old son whom for the past 3 years has spent every weekend & holiday doing just that.I can assure you he is not a mindless moron, he uses his head very well thankyou.I would rather see a child spending time with gentlemen enjoying a days fishing, than being in an expanding minority of "mindless morons" who walk around with knives terrorising innocent families & the elderly With that kind of attitude towards normal teenagers with a fantastic hobby no wonder the world has gone mad”

“If my memory serves me correctly, the fisherman you mention was not a riverbank angler but a deep sea trawlerman who fished for a living.”
