Big cat spots
SIGHTINGS of big cats in the Five Valleys in the past four years:
Sep 1997: Large black cat about size of Labrador with a smaller animal in fields north of Stroud.
May 1998: Black panther in Framilode and Cirencester.
Feb 1999: Puma on Rodborough Common.
Sep 1999: Black panther or puma in Ebley and in child's den in Belmont Road, Stroud.
Jan 2000: Throats torn out of two Lypiatt Park sheep; huge black cat just off Bear Hill in Rodborough.
Mar 2000: Two bright green eyes seen glinting in car headlights in Brimscombe.
Sep 2001: Large black cat, five times size of domestic cat, at Bull's Cross, Slad.
Feb 2002: Big cat in Edge road at Randwick Woods.
Oct 2002: Lynx or jaguar in Eastington.
Feb 2003: Disembowled and headless deer carcass in Cranham, big cat suspected.
Feb 2005: Lynx at Jackdaw Quarry, Sheepscombe.
Dec 2007: Black beast size of great Dane between Washpool and Hartley Bridge, Horsley.
Jan 2009: Lynx in Eastcombe; bigger cat in Chalford and Minchinhampton.
Aug 2009: Cat-like animal, about size of collie dog, with long tail in Thrupp.
Oct 2010: Big cat in field near Callowell School, Farmhill.
Jan 2012: Carcass of roe deer on National Trust land near Woodchester Park; mutilated roe deer between Whiteway and Rendcomb; black panther near Ram Inn, South Woodchester; Alsatian-sized animal with long tail and cat-like gait at Scar Hill, Nailsworth (twice).

“Good point - seems like there might be more than one out there, but no mention of any remains being found? Surely if a big cat died in the wild there is a chance some remains would eventually be found - yes carrion would quickly strip the body, but not take the whole skeleton, surely?
And of course there's the regular lack of photographic / video evidence, which given the modern technology of today is curious..... Regular sightings, but nobody ever seems able to capture an image.”

“The heading here is a bit misleading.....1997-2012 is not 4 years in my reckoning.
Just a thought. If the black cat seen in 1997 was a loner then that one will soon be heading to the big cat jungle in the sky. This might also be the case of some of the earlier sightings as we don't know how old they were when seen. Are some already dead and if so where are their remains? The plot thickens.”
