Bigger and better Echo now top value
FROM today, The Gloucestershire Echo will cost 60p Monday-Friday, an increase of 5p.
We have thought long and hard before making this increase because, for all of us, every penny counts.
But we are having to produce the Echo in ever-changing circumstances. It is becoming more expensive to produce a newspaper through traditional means while other mediums – the internet, mobile phones and tablets – are much cheaper.
We are facing a 15 per cent increase in newsprint costs and pressures on advertising revenues.

But we would not have considered an increase without giving you better value.
We have increased the number of pages, introduced new supplements and sections and given the paper a redesign to makes it more modern and easier to read. The Pink Un supplement every Monday and new daily nostalgia, features and business pages are just some of the added extras.
Our Weekend supplement will increase in size from October 19 when we are bringing back our glossy seven-day TV guide.
And 60p still represents great value. It wouldn't buy you a bar of chocolate, a tin of Heinz baked beans – or a tenth of a gallon of petrol.
From next week, the price of a lottery ticket jumps from £1 to £2. You'll be able to buy the Echo for three days for that and have 20p left over. Good luck with the lottery – but you're still on to a winner with the Echo.
