BINMEN are playing catch-up with Gloucestershire's uncollected waste.

Many collections by Gloucester City Council, Stroud District Council, Tewkesbury Borough Council and the Forest of Dean District Council were halted because of recent bad weather.

Forest of Dean officials have said refuse not collected last Friday will now be picked up today and tomorrow.

Outstanding refuse collections from Thursday will be collected tomorrow and Thursday.

A spokeswoman said: "Residents in these areas are asked to leave out their black refuse wheeled bins this week so they can be emptied.

"The scheduled refuse crews have been emptying some bins outside of the schedule where time and capacity allow."

Gloucester's waste is being collected as normal and there is no backlog.

In Tewkesbury borough, collections have also returned to normal. Any missed collections are being picked up on residents' regular pick-up days.

In Stroud, collections returned to normal today after problems in some areas last week.

Each of the local authorities held a telephone conference yesterday to monitor the situation.

“TBC Customer, it wasn't particularly an attack on you, thats why I didn't mention you by name, as for being a bit of a moaner, I think Ieave most on here in the shade. All I have heard from people on here is whinging and moaning because their bins havn't been collected, and that they are taxpayers. I actually said on another thread, that where I live we accept the fact that we lose services, like busses, post and refuse collections if they cannot get up the steep hill to our abode. As for terry nappies, was never a problem, you used nappy liners and put the excrement down the toilet, unlike some I am not afraid of a bit of hard work. Thats the advantage of being born in the dark ages. In fact I am glad I was born in the dark ages, it bred a better person. Because some of the vile vindictive comments that are on here are usually from the younger generation who think being spitefull is clever. I say what I have to say here without insulting people, just saying what I think, which is what this forum is for. Also, I do have a mobile phone, and as for working through the recent bad weather, I didn't miss a day, unlike quite a few who would have used it as an excuse to have a day off. I don't ever remember in the dark ages schools closing, we went in regardless. I cannot remember the last time I had a day off sick from work either, must be a few years now not bad for an old goat of 55 years old. Instead of moaning, you could do what me and my Hubby did when we had a backlog of rubbish. Take it down the tip, as you quite obviously felt the roads were not a problem to prevent bin lorries from collecting refuse, but were nevertheless off the road for health and safety reasons. Lets face it if they hit a car while skidding on ice, there would outrage for that, no win for some.”

    “FAO :bonzaharris1

Clearly you did take that as a persona attack. No apologies from me. Seeing from your previous posts, you are a bit of a moaner. These are facts what I am stating; I take your views on boards. However, if, like your nappies you have not moved from the dark ages, we now have a colour TV system with HD and the ability to watch thing in 3D. Why when we can do this, my Local Authority can't empty my bins, again, a service for what I have paid for cant be carried out.....????

Maybe the staff that were on standby are like yourself, in the dark ages and don't have a mobile phone and refuse to come to terms that we live in C21.
Get with the script, you wasted your time attacking me with your sorry nappy story. I love using disposables. It keeps lots of foreign workers employed where they are made, keeps delivery drivers and check out staff in the UK employed. It also keeps my fetish of scraping excreted items from material and washing it with other garments that I wear to a minimum. Terry Nappies.....weird!!!!!!!”

“Thirty odd years ago, I used terry nappies for my Daughter. It did her no harm, she has grown up a normal human being, completey unscathed by having to endure terry nappies when she was a baby. Take into consideration the considerable savings made on using terry nappies, that you washed and used again, just like you do your clothes. Or am I missing out on the latest fad of disposable clothes !! Rather live in the middle ages, than spend a ludicrous amount money on disposable nappies, which pollute the environment and just goes to show how idle the younger generation has become.”

“All Very well though. But, what if you now have 3 weeks of nappies in your bin, 3 weeks of plastic that this borough will not recycle? Polystyrene that again, somthing other councils will take?

Those of these readers that will say.... Teri nappies, and all your other middle age rubbish, this is the 21st century. Get with the times.

If people live in flats, what do you then do? Put on the balcony? I agree that having someone/organisation working 'flat out' to resume services, when they were either paid while 'snowed off' or un paid, will have a chance to earn their money????? Wrong????

Also my brown (garden waste) bin.....why, when i contacted the council, to ask if they will take 2 loads worth, I was told, "that is unlikely, but really up to the collection agent?". Really!!!!!!!!!.... a service that I pay for (separate to council tax), that has failed to deliver. If this was a normal business, they would lose money over this behaviour. People are to soft now, incidents like these are not uncommon. The collection that takes place is not even ran by the council. Surely the contractor would have been penalised somehow........ probably not, we will have to foot that bill also.”

“People could help themselves a lot more with their rubbish, many people have back gardens and bags can be stored there for a short while but also things like recyclables, plastic bottles etc they can also be stored in our own gardens while waiting.

People are also still filling their bins with things that can be recycled.”

“I'd have thought they'd be only too glad to make up for lost time. Presumably they weren't doing any gainful work while they couldn't do their normal rounds?”
