Blame for blazes
SOLID fuel heating has been blamed on a rise in chimney fires in Gloucestershire.
It comes as the emergency services were called to tackle a blaze in Willersey on Friday night.
A crew from Chipping Camden was called to the property in Collin Lane just after 8.30pm.
Firefighters were at the scene for a total of 45 minutes to bring the fire under control and ensure there was no risk of further flames.

“TimMessanger - yes but habits change slow - people don't realise wood tars accumulate within the chimney increasing the hazard compared with clean burn fuels and need frequent clean up - and chimney sweeps cost money.
Also many people install small wood burners for chimneys previously designed for large open fires - The fire brigade, council building control and wood burner sellers need to publicise the risks and care needed when installing new wood burners.”

“This is caused by poor maintenance not "solid" fuel, should bee a good year for chimney sweeps!”

“Lets be honest, after we are being continually soaked by the power companies to feed their ever increasing profits people are bound to look at alternative fuel sources. Chimney fires are going to be an inevitable result of this.”

“Well, talk about stating the obvious! Never heard of a chimney fire starting on it's own...”
