JAMES Brewer gets another chance this weekend to earn a place in the Great Britain team for the World Indoor Championships in Turkey.

The Cheltenham and County Harrier narrowly missed out on automatic selection in the Aviva UK trials last weekend, finishing runner-up to Lewis Moses in the 1500m.

But on current form Brewer still has a great chance of making the second spot his own.

"Obviously I was hoping to win last weekend but there wasn't much in it and fair play to Moses he ran well," said Brewer.

"He got the automatic spot and I am still waiting to hear as the second place is still up for grabs.

"They will announce the full team after the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix on Saturday, so if I can give another good show then hopefully it will be enough to get me into the team for the Worlds."

A world-class field has been assembled for Saturday's 1500m race, led by American Olympian Bernard Legat, with several other top runners from Kenya and Ethiopia.

Brewer and Moses are the only confirmed Europeans, although fellow Brit Andy Baddeley – who recently beat Brewer in Boston – may also run.

"Baddeley has said he doesn't want to run the Worlds but you never know with him so really it would be nice to see him in the race and then go out and beat him," added Brewer.

"That would probably seal my place in the team."

But at least Brewer can take great encouragement that he is at last returning to the sort of form that earned him a place in the GB team for the World Championships in 2009.

And it puts him firmly in line to challenge for the Olympics this summer.

"Compared to where I was at this time last year then I am very happy with the way things are going," explained Brewer.

"I feel I am getting stronger and more competitive with every race and I know I have a very fast race in me and hopefully that will be on Saturday.

"I'm just going to get struck in with all those fast Africans and see what happens."
