A city school’s performance could be branded as unacceptable following an Ofsted inspection last week.

Rumours have been flying since the visit to Brockworth Enterprise School last Friday, and it is believed the secondary school will be put into special measures when the report comes out.

The term means the school is deemed to be failing to provide an acceptable standard of education.

Headteacher Jan Scott said: “We had an Ofsted inspection last Friday but as of yet we have not yet received their official report and are therefore unable to comment on the outcome.

“The inspectors recognised that the school is facing challenges, but made it clear that we are moving in the right direction and have made significant progress in the last six months. “They recognise there are many green shoots and were impressed by our students.

“Whatever the outcome of the inspection, I am confident that the school will continue to improve throughout this process.

“Waiting for an Ofsted report is an unsettling time for parents, staff and students. As soon as we receive the report, we will make sure that everyone is informed and involved in our plans for the future.”

Parent Toni Kent, 35, who has a 14-year-old son at the school, said: “I think it would be awful if the school goes into special measures.

“My son Malik is doing really well at the school. He’s in year 10 and he’s doing a diploma in engineering, and he’s hitting all his targets. If anything I think it’s improved since I went there, so I can’t see why there’s a problem. It’s a really good school.”

Tewkesbury borough councillor Maureen Rowclifee-Quarry (Lib Dem, Brockworth), whose son Rowan, now 20, went to the school, said: “I think Brockworth Enterprise School is a wonderful school which has so much going for it. They have wonderful staff, and the school is always keen to be involved in the community. I just can’t fault it.”

Jo Grills, head of learning and development at Gloucestershire County Council, said : “The headteacher, staff and students at the school have been working extremely hard over the last six months to make significant changes.

“We were delighted that the student results improved last year and have every confidence in the headteacher to continue to take the school forward.

“We need to wait for Ofsted’s report before making any judgement.”

“"... teachers have worked hard and made progress in the last 6 months..!! What about the YEARS of hard work from the staff and students to make this school improve. Look at how the schools results have improved year by year. Mr Elliott was a brilliant headteacher - he wouldn't have let this happen to Brockworth. This is all politics - the county, the politicians don't care about the school or anybody in it, they just want it shut so they can open an academy. Watch this space.......”

“These judgments have been made without putting circumstance into context - our results might not be 'there' yet, but it would seem that the massive progression that has been made over the last 5 years with Mr. Elliott has been completely disregarded. Isn't it better that the school is continually improving results and sustaining this, than peaking and then declining at the expense of our education?
If you want to achieve here, you are given every opportunity to do so, and if you don¿t believe it, come and see for yourself ¿ and let¿s not forget that as a school we don¿t have the luxury of being as exclusive about the ¿type¿ of students we get.
Under Mr. Elliott¿s leadership, the school has continued to progress and develop so that all students of all learning capabilities are given the opportunity to gain a relevant and rewarding education, and the benefits of this have been transferred into this academic year with the guidance of those who helped make it happen.
How can Ofsted know, in 2 days, what the school does for us over up to 7 years?”

“The report is not yet published so obviously I can't comment on it. However, if the rumours of special measures are true all I can say is I do not recognise this as the Brockworth School I know. My eldest son attended Brockworth and attained good grades at GCSE and went onto Tommies for 6th form (he would have liked to have stayed at Brockworth but needed different subjects). My daughter is currently a student and is doing well and enjoying her time there. My two youngest sons are due to start in September and are both looking forward to "going up". One of my sons has some behavioural needs and currently receives support at his junior school. The Senco at Brockworth has already visited his current school and had a meeting with the current support and ourselves and is developing a plan in advance of my son's attendance to ensure he gets the best out of his time at Brockworth. The schools Senco has good reputation and we are very pleased that he will be able to take advantage of this opportunity. I look forward to hearing the actual comments from the report. If they do prove to be critical I would advise parents of children due to join in September not to read too much into it. All schools can be improved - it's the ones that think they can't that are probably failing - Brockworth isn't.”

“Brockworth had excellent results with their Year 11 Novemeber entries, for both English and Maths. This goes to proove the quality of the teaching and learning. Furthermore there is a true community in BES, in every sense of the word; the teachers, students and parents all work together. I would be proud to send my children there and proud to work with such devoted professionals.
Look at the statistics that count!!”

“i have been at the school since year 7 and we have had some many scares from ofsted it really makes me laugh as nothing ever happens after. the school is great and so are th students the teachers know what they are doing and i dont see what the problem is i think ofsted need to have a check themselves before they go around saying that things are not right.
the school is not poor, i am happy to be at the school and i am currently in the first year of 6th form. if people have problems about the school dont bother commenting and dont bother sending your children to the school simple as.
brockworth should stay open and we will do all it takes for it to stay open and the results from last years GCSE's are higher than ever, every child is meeting targets and last time ofsted said that we was going into special measures they said that they was going to close the school down and have they NO!!
so leave brockworth alone cause there are loads of others schools worse than this one.”

“this school has always been poor, my daughters mother put her there, after barnwood park was going to do something about her absenteeism, brockworth just did not care that she never went.”

“i think that if the school shuts down because of minor things then this community will lose out on alot of oppertunities that they may not learn in different schools, i really enjoy my time at brockworth and i think its a good place to learn special things such as: a really good connection with diferent people within the school. even visitors have said if this school is still running they'd wish to send their children here. But i still think its a excellent school.”
