Brockworth fly-tipping spot to be cleared up
A FLY-TIPPING spot in Brockworth will be cleaned up after a long campaign by residents and councillors.
Workmen have moved in to remove debris around Horsbere Brook after residents used the area as a dumping ground.

Tewkesbury Borough councillor Maureen Rowcliffe-Quarry (Lib Dem, Brockworth) and parish and borough councillor Judith Perez (Lib Dem, Brockworth) raised the issue at a meeting of the parish council.
Maureen said: "It's just a real mess down there at the moment.
"There's everything from mattresses, to bricks, to bin bags full of cans and bottles, which could be recycled.
"We are also going to arrange a community litter pick to deal with some of the smaller bits of rubbish."
She added that she was glad the area was going to be cleaned up.
She said: "It's very unsightly, and the trouble is if one person does it, it encourages everyone else to dump stuff there.
"They're also going to do some work on the footpath to make the area much better for everyone."
Parish council chairman Jim Hunt said he was glad the council had responded so quickly after the complaints.
He said: "They do tend to sort these things out very quickly when we report them.
"We do appreciate it when they do positive things in the parish."
"I would always encourage people to get rid of their unwanted rubbish in the right way."
Tewkesbury Borough Council's lead member for clean and green environment, Councillor Jim Mason, said: "I am very pleased that action is being taken on this area.
"We rely on the public to report cases of fly-tipping and I would like to thank our residents for their support – without their help, the task of dealing with this problem would be much greater.
"We will continue to do what we can to crack down on the small minority of people who think it is acceptable to dump rubbish in our area."

“Thank goodness it is to be cleared up it is a mess not only there but also along the whole parameter of the school and even the small playgroup area. I would say that the whole of Brockworth school should be involved in clearing up the mess. Also clear their school field up!”

“those fly tippers get everywhere dont they are so impatient they know quedgeley going to have an incerator soon they could chuck it in there. Thats very unusual gloucsester city council spending our money watch tho that means the council tax will go up hey brockworth residents if you got room for fly tipping perhaps you could dump our parish council up there as well there no bloody good down here another waste of taxpayers money”

“What a foolish comment from CEEBEE of Quedgeley. It is obvious that most residents DON'T like the fly-tipping; that's why they are getting the place cleaned up. Only a minority of people are responsible for the mess.”

“Why clear up Brockworth? The residents obviously like living in a designated eyesore area. There are many more projects that could do with the funding being supplied for this clean up.”

“As usual, it's the very small minority spoiling things for the overwhelming majority.
Well done to the Council for dealing with the issue, and for also proposing a community litter pick. There's plenty of other areas that could do the same.
Of course, it will count for very little if fresh fly-tipping occurs in the same location again, after the clean-up.....”
