ALEX LAWLESS must spend six weeks in plaster after playing several minutes of Forest Green's defeat at York City with a broken leg.

The midfielder collapsed to the turf after half an hour of Tuesday night's match, but he attempted to play on following treatment and was eventually replaced by James Baldwin in the 36th minute.

"I was in a lot of pain but I didn't want to make a mountain out of a molehill," he said.

"It could have been a lot worse, and I suppose the timing isn't bad with only one game left this season."

Out of contract this summer, Lawless is among the prize assets Jim Harvey is desperate to keep for 2009/10.

The Welshman added: "Right now I'm just focusing on being fit for pre-season – I haven't thought about much else."

Rovers end their campaign tomorrow with a trip to Grays Athletic (4pm).

Lawless' absence will mean a first start for Hartpury College starlet James Baldwin at right-back, with Jonathan Smith reverting to his preferred midfield role.

Jerry Gill, Lee Ayres, Curtis McDonald, Les Afful and David Brown are all definite absentees because of injury.

Grays secured their Blue Square Premier status with a 1-0 victory over Crawley Town in midweek, although this season is not one they will care to remember.

Gary Phillips is the third incumbent of the manager's job since August, while outspoken chairman Mick Woodward – who has bankrolled the club's rise through the non-league ranks – is planning to step down.

FOREST GREEN (PROBABLE): T. Burton; J. Baldwin, M. Preece, D. Jones, P. Casey; P. Lloyd, J. Smith, L. Fowler, C. Platt; A. Rigoglioso; A. Mangan.
