WELL wishers have being speaking out in support of a popular street trader who was brutally attacked in Gloucester.

The kebab seller needed hospital treatment after he was set upon by a gang of yobs on bikes at 11.40pm on Friday.

He was setting up his usual pitch outside the former Whitbread Brewery in Eastern Avenue when the incident happened.

After being rushed to hospital he was released the following morning after having several stitches to his head.

Visitors have inundated our website www.thisisgloucestershire.co.uk with messages of support.

Zip, of Sewer Lane, said: "Rats like these vermin need to be 'removed'. Get well soon."

Meanwhile, Zinger, of Gloucester, said: "It's disgraceful that a man trying to earn a living is picked on by a group of social no hopers. These wasters are our future – frighteningly bleak looking isn't it?"

JM, is a regular at the kebab van. He said: "I hope the bad guys get their just desserts and that kebab man is ok soon. Man, I love his chips."

Mark Owen, of the Federation of Small Businesses, said it was disturbing to hear of a hard-working trader being attacked in public.

He said: "This type of attack is unwanted by someone just trying to go about their daily business. It goes to show that running a small business is difficult, and I hope the business community can rally around him and help him through it.

"My thoughts go out to him and his family at this horrible time."

Speaking after the incident Inspector Tony Rymer, from Gloucestershire police, condemned the attack.

He said: "A mob were causing disorder in the area and when the vendor asked them to leave, he was quite violently attacked. A group of males were reportedly circling the van with push bikes before the incident."

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack or who has any information about the incident which could help police should contact Gloucestershire police on 08450 901234 quoting incident 667 of May 1.

    “Dear Gefod,

My observation was not intended to be a model of perfect grammar.

It was simply intended to discourage criminal written words.

    (not English)

Please go easy on the slang.

    Bri”

    “Attention Brian Lewis,

    You ARE a plank indeed...

You have a pop at someone's written English but your own post is NOT grammatically correct.

You need punctutation after the salutation - doh!!!

    Nice try though.”

“I think the police need to patrol more and the public need to keep an eye open to help anyone who needs it. It must be scary at times doing a job like they do considering all the drunks and idiots they must come cross. Kids should be kept a closer eye on i say, this country seems to have allot of parents who'd rather sit at home get drunk and watch football then give a damn what their kids are doing. I think things will never improve as long as people dont care. Keep an eye open for other people on the streets who will fall victim to people like the ones who done this crime and HELP them if they need it”

    “Young Mum Coleford

Your written English is quite awful.

Even Five Acres or its successors could not be responsible for such rubbish.

Please ensure your children are educated.

    Bri.”

“I would like to let you sexist people out there that not all single mothers are scroungers. A lot are hard working mothers divorced or widowed. You'll find Social Workers, teachers, doctors, cleaners, office workers etc single mothers. So stop picking on the women.
By the way there are alot of single dads out there too.
I have found these type of thugs have a mum and dad. Who don't care what their little devils get up to!
As this country has soft laws these thugs will get away with it.
Until we bring back punishment the law will stay an ass. Our laws make the police and victims feel let down.”

“Wow, (Young Mother ,Coleford) you spell like a child. You write like you're texting your friends. You MUST be a very young mother indeed. It may not have been kids that did this, but riding round the stall on bikes? Does that sound like an adult? Why are you taking this so personally? Do you know something we don't?”

“Such a sad story but a true reflection of our society. Not wanting to be as extreme as the pro Communist poster I would still like to see a real punishment handed down on these sad examples of English Society. Doubt it though.”
