New circular bus service launched to do the rounds in Gloucester
A NEW bus service will be stopping off in Gloucester from today.
The new Centrebus 101 circular service is being launched in the city by Stagecoach in a bid to make travel in Gloucester easier and more accessible.

New service: Stagecoach MD Ian Manning
The Centrebus 101 will operate as a city centre circular starting at Market Parade, serving Northgate Street, St Oswald's Park, Westgate Street, Gloucestershire College and Gloucester Quays before returning to Market Parade via Trier Way and Eastgate Street.
The service will operate every 30 minutes during the day between Monday and Saturday, and journeys will cost £1.
Ian Manning, managing director Stagecoach West said: "This is another excellent example of bus companies working with key local partners like Gloucestershire College on green transport plans to the benefit of congestion and the environment, whilst simultaneously improving public transport links to the Gloucester campus."
The new service is the result of a partnership between Stagecoach West and Gloucestershire College, which requested a regular bus service to its Gloucester Campus on Llanthony Road.
Although the new service is available to the public, Gloucestershire College students and staff can use the service at a discounted rate by showing their college ID card.
Greg Smith, Gloucestershire College Principal, said: "We are delighted to be working with Stagecoach to provide an accessible low-cost travel solution for our students and staff in Gloucester.
"The move supports our sustainability agenda. We are also working with Stagecoach to provide discounted tickets for our students on Stagecoach West routes."
The launch of the new service has been welcomed by community leaders across Gloucester, including City Centre Community Partnership chairman Barry Leach. He said: "We're very pleased.
"It's going to prove very advantageous to residents of the city and will touch a few bases where there has been concern, such as linking up Westgate Street.
"There are lots of good vibes about this from our membership."
Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration, said he was pleased the bus would link the city centre with the Quays.
Timetables are available from Gloucester Tourist Information Centre or online at www.stagecoachbus.com/west.

“I am not convinced this is financiallly viable for Stagecoach as I would expect able bodied students who get to Gloucester on the bus would then walk from the bus station to the college.
Instead of this new service, could the existing P&R not include these stops somehow to cut down on overlap of service?
Will this make the P&R less viable and need to have an increased taxpayer subsidy as a result?”

“Yes, Gareth it was a really useful P&R route around the ends of the cross streets and was like a good clock. Kept Regular time. Was cheap to use.”

“Sounds like they've resurrected the old St Oswald's Park & Ride, the USEFUL one they dumped as an an "improvement". They've just added a detour to the Quays and college and are charging more for it!
That was a really useful P&R route around the ends of the cross streets and I was amazed to see it go to be replaced by the useless route they have now.”
