RETIRED clippies took the bus to and from their annual dinner.

The former bus conductresses were among nearly 30 ex-Stroud bus company employees who enjoyed the meal at the Tudor Arms in Slimbridge.

"Stroud depot has always been a strong community," said the event's organiser Ken Gowling from successor company Stagecoach West.

"It used to be a Christmas dinner but with quite a few of the retired staff getting more elderly they preferred it to be held in the autumn," Mr Gowling said.

"It was quite informal and yes, they always use the bus," he added.

Among the retired personnel were drivers, and conductors and conductresses who used to take passengers' fares before the introduction of -driver-operated double and single-decker buses.
