DOZENS of businesses clubbed together to support a pub charity night in Whaddon.

The Greyhound in Hewlett Road held a special fundraising evening in aid of Help for Heroes, featuring televised horse racing, a prize raffle, live music and an auction offering items of sporting memorabilia.

With signed pictures of Geoff Hurst up for grabs, prizes and donations from generous punters helped to raise more than £2,000 for Help for Heroes.

Staff at the pub have issued a heartfelt thank you for the "overwhelming" support that ensured the night such a success.

Pub manager Dave Kelly said: "It was a tremendous occasion, but we could not have done it without all the businesses who donated prizes and the hundreds of people who came along on the night.

"Special mention must go to Sir Geoff Hurst for providing the signed pictures, and lodges of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes for donating cheques worth £150.

"Lots of other businesses clubbed together to support us including Browsers and DJS Removals. We are extremely grateful to everyone who played a part."

The pub's overall fundraising total now stands at £2,513, with regular punters set to add to the total later this month when they take on a sponsored skydive.
