Cadet's chance to work with mayor
CADETS in Tewkesbury are to nominate one of their number to work alongside the mayor.
Members of the town council gave the go-ahead to create the new position of Town Mayor's Cadet.
Aged at least 16, the person will come from the army, air or sea cadet units and serve for a year, beginning at the annual mayor-making ceremony in May.
The cadet will take part in events such as civic parades and the wreath-laying at the Cross on Remembrance Day, before receiving a certificate at the end of the year.

“Why is this only being offered to an Army, Air or Sea Cadet? There are many other youth organisations in Tewkesbury that also take part in Civic Parades, Civic Carol Services and Remembrance Day Parade and will have youths that may be interested in this position.
These organisations are run by volunteers and do not received any funding or backing from the Armed Services and the volunteers put in many hours of their free time. Sadly it looks as if Tewkesbury Town Council doesn't value either the volunteers or the organisations they run!”
